EV Charger Installation for Oklahoma Homeowners

More Oklahoma homeowners are adding EVs every year. The charger that came with your car (Level 1) plugs into a regular outlet and adds about 4 miles of range per hour. That's fine for short commutes. But if you drive more than 40 miles a day, you want a Level 2 charger at home.

Level 1 vs. Level 2: the real difference

• Level 1 (standard 120V outlet): 3-5 miles of range per hour. Overnight charge adds about 30-40 miles. Free to use if you already have an outlet in the garage.
• Level 2 (240V dedicated circuit): 25-30 miles of range per hour. Full charge overnight, every night, regardless of battery size. This is what most homeowners want installed.

Level 2 requires a 240-volt, dedicated circuit from your electrical panel to the charging location. Same type of circuit as your electric dryer or oven, just run to the garage or driveway.

What the installation involves

1. Panel check: We verify your panel has capacity for the new circuit. Most Level 2 chargers need a 40-amp or 50-amp breaker. If your panel is full or undersized, we may need to add a sub-panel or upgrade.
2. Circuit run: We run the wire from the panel to the charger location. Distance matters: a 10-foot run is simpler than a 60-foot run through the attic.
3. Outlet or hardwire: Some chargers plug into a NEMA 14-50 outlet (same as a dryer). Others are hardwired directly. We install whichever your charger requires.
4. Permit and inspection: Required in most Oklahoma municipalities. We handle it.

Common questions

Can my panel handle it? Maybe. Older homes with 100-amp service may need a panel upgrade to add a 50-amp EV circuit safely. We check this during the site visit and include it in the quote if needed.

Where should the charger go? Inside the garage is easiest. If you need it on the exterior wall or the driveway, that works too, but the circuit run is longer and the outlet needs weatherproof protection.

What charger should I buy? We don't sell chargers, so we have no bias. Most homeowners do well with a 40-amp unit from ChargePoint, Grizzl-E, or the manufacturer's own wall connector. We can advise based on your vehicle.

How long does installation take? Most installs are half a day. Panel upgrades add time if needed.

What about the federal tax credit?

The federal EV charger tax credit (Section 30C) covers 30% of installation costs up to $1,000 for residential. Check with your tax advisor for current eligibility. We provide the documentation you need for the claim.
